Glass Alabastron
Alabastron made of opaque blue glass. It belongs to a rare group of glass alabastra with a flat base. Its decoration consists of superimposed white, yellow, and light blue glass threads. Height: 9.5 cm.
These vessels were highly expensive and were used for aromatic oils.
It was discovered in the tumulus cemetery of Abdera and, together with a gilded wreath, formed part of a grave offering for a child approximately 10 years old. The vessel had broken into many fragments, which were later reassembled.
It dates to the end of the 4th century BC.
